When Kweens Kounsel founder LyVesha Franklin (at center with other community members) moved to Monterey County eight years ago, she saw a need to support Black pregnant women.

In today's newscast, a group that supports Black birthing families and health providers in Monterey County marks its third anniversary this month. And, Santa Cruz County is hosting a civics summit for high school students.

Before joining KAZU, Ngozi covered health, business and economy stories for WYSO in southwest Ohio and The Ohio Newsroom. She’s also worked as a freelance reporter for Reveal, The New Humanitarian and other outlets.
