Salinas Valley Health Mobile Clinic rolls out free vaccines for children
Salinas Valley Health is offering free vaccines for children through its mobile clinic.
That's thanks to a federally-funded program for kids with Medicaid or without insurance.
Lynette Fitzgerald, director of community benefit at Salinas Valley Health, said this program makes it easier for children to access vaccines.
“Sometimes it can take a little while for children to get their appointment to see their provider and to get these vaccines to be in school," Fitzgerald said.
She said kids can get the required and recommended vaccines at the mobile clinic without having to book an appointment.
"Many of them that come to us need catch-up vaccines, so we're able to give these children all the vaccines that they need at the time of the visit."
The mobile clinic is now partnering with school districts around Monterey County to offer vaccinations.
Funding allocation for CalFood in the California May budget revision
In his May budget proposal, Governor Gavin Newsom has allocated additional funding to support food banks.
The move provides $30 million in additional funding for CalFood. This raises the proposed funding baseline to $38 million from $8 million previously.
In a statement, the California Association of Food Banks says it’s pushing for more. It wants to see continued funding of $60 million and $50 million in one-time support for CalFood in the final 2026 budget.
