Since California’s primary was earlier this year, many voters felt their voice really counted this time around. KAZU’s Erika Mahoney visited a Monterey Bay area polling place on Super Tuesday to get a taste of how voters, old and new, made their mark.

*Santa Cruz County and Monterey County election results have been certified. As a note, jurisdictions who haven't certified their results yet do have until April 24, 2020 to do so, which may affect statewide results.

 

Over a dozen states held nominating contests on Super Tuesday (March 3, 2020), including California.

 

Bernie Sanders won California’s Democratic Presidential Primary election, the largest state with the largest delegate haul. He received 35.8% of the vote.

Monterey and Santa Cruz counties still need 100 poll workers each for the March 3rd California Primary.

Vote by mail voters should receive their ballots by the end of next week. KAZU’s Erika Mahoney spoke with Gail Pellerin to talk about what voters should know, but might be afraid to ask. Pellerin is the Santa Cruz County clerk and registrar of voters. She’s been serving as the county’s chief elections official for 27 years.

California’s June 7th Primary election may see the largest increase in new voters in decades.

The Monterey County Elections Office looks like a department store at Christmas. New voters are registering to vote.  Others are asking questions.  And the staff is gearing up for what is likely to be a very busy night.
